US Declares Writer Held in Russia to Have Been” Wrongfully Detained.”
On April 10, the State Department declared Wall Street Journal ( WSJ ) reporter Evan Gershkovich to be” wrongfully detained” in Russia.
As Roger Carstens’ Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs works to obtain Gershkovich’s’s launch, the title will enable the ministry to devote more resources to freeing him.
” Writing is not a violence.” Vedant Patel, the principal deputy director for the State Department, said in a statement that Secretary of State Antony Blinken had made the title,” We condemn the Kremlin’s’s continued suppression of active accents in Russia and its ongoing battle against the point.”
He continued,” The U.S. government will give Mr. Gershkovich and his family all the necessary support.” ” We demand Mr. Gershkovich’s’s immediate release from custody by the Russian Federation.”
Paul Whelan, a U.S. member who was unfairly detained, should be released, Patel continued.
On March 29, Russia detained Gershkovich on suspicion of spy, which The Wall Street Journal refuted.
Editor-in-chief of the Wall Street Journal Emma Tucker criticized Gershkovich’s’s detention in a letter to coworkers.
” The Russian government’s’s decisions are completely unjustified.
” Evan is a member of the free press who was involved in newsgathering right up until he was arrested ,” she claimed. Any other recommendations are untrue.
” His ultimate goal in his play is to identify problems that are happening all over the world and to shed light on them so that the general public can decide how to manage the future.”
” We keep pleading for his instant release. We are all deeply troubled by the cruel arrest of one of our own, and I am aware that many people are still wondering what the actions of the Russian government will mean for press freedom in the area.
