US Response to China Invading Taiwan Would Be ‘Very Similar’ to Ukraine War Response: US General
A senior US general, Gen. Kenneth Wilsbach, has said that the response by the United States and its allies to China invading Taiwan would be parallel to the response to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. He compared China’s position of Taiwan being a sovereign nation to Russia’s claim about Ukraine. Wilsbach, Pacific Air Forces and Air Component Commander, noted that the international community has responded to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine by imposing restrictive measures on Moscow and providing military assistance to Ukraine. He said that China should expect a very similar response if it attacked Taiwan.
Gen. Wilsbach noted that air superiority played an essential role in the Russia-Ukraine war and that it would be no different in a potential Taiwan-China conflict. He mentioned that amphibious landing over 100 miles would be the most challenging military operation that China would have to execute.
CIA Director William Burns stated that China had not been deterred from potentially invading Taiwan, and Moscow’s failure to take over Ukraine was influencing Beijing’s thinking about how it would plan such a move. However, Gen. Wilsbach declared that China would have a hard time invading Taiwan, and that the Taiwanese were determined to defend themselves.
These remarks come as the Chinese and Russian leaders met in Moscow on 20th March. The United States announced an additional $350 million in military aid to Ukraine on the same day, an ally in Ukraine’s conflict with Russia.
