US sanctions foreign entities aiding Russia’s Iranian drone program in Ukraine.
The United States Treasury Department Imposes Sanctions on Entities Allegedly Supporting Iran’s Drone Program
The United States Treasury Department has announced sanctions against several entities based in Iran, China, Hong Kong, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates. These entities are believed to have provided support to Iran’s drone program.
Financial Support and Procurement of Critical Components
This network has provided financial support for transactions benefiting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Aerospace Force Self Sufficiency Jihad Organization (IRGC ASF SSJO) and has facilitated their procurement of servomotors, a critical component used in Iran’s Shahed-series unmanned aerial vehicles.
Iran has supplied Russia with hundreds of Shahed drones, which have been deployed in Ukraine and used to target Ukrainian infrastructure. In fact, one of the servomotors obtained by the network was discovered in the remains of a drone that was shot down in Ukraine.
Consequences for Supporting Iran’s Proliferation
“Iranian-made UAVs continue to be a key tool for Russia in its attacks in Ukraine, including those that terrorize Ukrainian citizens and attack its critical infrastructure,” said Undersecretary of the Treasury for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian E. Nelson. “The United States, in coordination with our allies and partners, will persist in holding accountable those who contribute to Iran’s proliferation of its UAVs to Russia, its proxies in the Middle East, and other destabilizing actors.”
The Iranian firm Pishgam Electronic Safeh Company (PESC) and its CEO Hamid Reza Janghorbani, as well as the Hong Kong-based Hongkong Himark Electron Model Limited and Fan Yang, have been sanctioned for their involvement in procuring servomotors. Additionally, Turkey-based firms Dal Enerji Madencilik Turizm Sanayi Ve Ticaret Anonim Sirketi (Dal Enerji) and Anka Port Ic Ve Dis Ticaret INSAAT Lojistik Sanayi Limited Sirketi (Anka Port), along with UAE-based Farhad Ghaedi Goods Wholesalers LLC (Farhad Ghaedi), have been accused of facilitating support for PESC’s servomotor procurement.
This marks the ninth time that the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has imposed sanctions on entities or individuals involved in Iran’s drone program since September 2022.
The U.S. military and intelligence community have confirmed that Russia is using Iranian drones in Ukraine, despite Iran’s repeated denials. By comparing drones shot down in Ukraine to those used in attacks claimed by Iran in the Middle East, the U.S. has determined that they are the same.
Russia is currently constructing a production plant in the Alabuga Special Economic Zone to manufacture its own version of the Shahed drones, which could be fully operational early next year.

What are the specific measures imposed on the sanctioned entities by the United States Treasury Department?
3>Entities Involved in the Sanctions
The entities that have been targeted by the sanctions include Iran-based Mahan Aero Tehran Company and its China-based subsidiary Beijing Gree Air and Space Technology Company. These entities have played a significant role in procuring and providing financial support for the IRGC ASF SSJO. Additionally, Hong Kong-based Companies Hemato Chemicals Ltd and Comeos Group, Turkey-based Istanbul Firmas, and UAE-based Tri Ocean Aviation are also among the entities facing sanctions. The United States has been steadfast in its commitment to countering Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region. The imposition of sanctions on these entities is a clear message that the United States will not tolerate support for Iran’s drone program, which has been used to threaten regional security and target foreign infrastructure. The sanctions imposed by the United States Treasury Department will have a severe impact on these entities. The measures include freezing any assets these entities may have within U.S. jurisdiction and prohibiting any U.S. citizens or entities from conducting any transactions with them. This will effectively cut off their access to the U.S. financial system and severely limit their ability to conduct business internationally. Furthermore, these sanctions also serve as a warning to other entities involved in supporting Iran’s drone program. The United States will not hesitate to take similar measures against any entity found to be aiding Iran’s efforts to develop and enhance its drone capabilities. The importance of sanctioning entities involved in Iran’s drone program cannot be underestimated. Drones have increasingly become a significant tool in modern warfare, enabling countries to carry out precision strikes and gather intelligence without risking human lives. As Iran continues to develop its drone capabilities, it poses an increasing threat to regional stability and the safety of U.S. forces deployed in the region. The United States remains committed to preventing Iran from acquiring and advancing its drone technology. These sanctions are part of a broader strategy aimed at curbing Iran’s aggressive behavior and ensuring the safety and security of the United States and its allies. It is important for the international community to support these sanctions and join the United States in denouncing entities that support Iran’s drone program. By taking a united front against Iran’s destabilizing activities, we can send a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated, and those who enable it will face severe consequences. In conclusion, the imposition of sanctions on entities allegedly supporting Iran’s drone program by the United States Treasury Department is a significant move to counter Iran’s destabilizing activities in the region. The measures will have a severe impact on the entities involved and serve as a warning to others considering similar actions. It is crucial for the international community to stand together to denounce and deter Iran’s aggressive behavior, ensuring regional stability and the safety of all nations involved.
