The U.S. Defense Department has unveiled a⁣ new⁢ military assistance‍ package ⁤worth $425 million for ⁣Ukraine, aimed at bolstering its defense capabilities against Russian forces. This package includes laser-guided munitions specifically designed to shoot down Russia’s drones.

The package consists of $125 million in munitions drawn‌ from existing U.S. stockpiles, as stated in a press release by the department on Nov. 3.

In addition to the munitions, Ukraine will receive air defense systems, rocket ammunition, artillery rounds, javelins, and anti-tank systems to ⁣aid in its fight against Russian​ forces on ⁢its soil.

However, the White House press secretary, Karine Jean-Pierre, expressed concerns on Nov. 3 ⁤that the‌ funds under USAI are running low⁢ due ⁢to a divided Congress over the Biden administration’s $100 billion supplemental funding request.

Jean-Pierre told reporters, “While⁢ we do have remaining PDA [Presidential Drawdown Authority] to continue to fulfill Ukraine’s immediate battlefield needs, we’re beginning to provide Ukraine with smaller PDA packages in ⁤order to‍ stretch out our ability to support Ukraine for as long as possible.”

“We’re the United States of America for God’s sake, the most powerful nation in the history—not in the world, in the history of the ⁣world,” Biden said in an Oct. 15 interview on CBS’s ​”60 Minutes” news⁤ program.

“We can take care of both of these and still maintain our overall international defense,” President Biden added.

The Biden administration has already deployed military assets closer to Israel and provided munitions and interceptors for its Iron Dome defense system following the unprecedented attack by Hamas on Oct. 7.

On the‍ other hand, Ukraine has ​received a total of $44 billion in military⁤ assistance from the United States since ⁣Russia’s invasion in ‍2014.

Unlike Ukraine, Israeli forces are supported by an increasing deployment of United States warships in the ⁢region as⁤ a deterrent against Iran and its⁢ proxies.

In July, the United States also decided to send controversial cluster bombs to Ukraine after months ⁢of requests for further assistance in its war effort‌ against Russia. President Biden explained his decision, stating, “We’ve run out of ammunition,” referring to medium-caliber 155 mm artillery ammunition.

Ukraine’s European allies have also expressed concerns about depleting their⁣ stockpiles of ​155 mm munitions in support of ‌Ukraine’s defense.
