(Reuters) – The Biden administration is working to further tighten restrictions on exporting semiconductor manufacturing gear to China, Bloomberg News reported on Friday citing people familiar with the situation.
The report stated that the government had informed U.S. companies of the plan and advised them that it would announce the restrictions by next month.
According to the report the Biden administration will coordinate with Japan (and the Netherlands)
The Dutch government announced this week that it will impose new restrictions on the export of semiconductor technology to China in order to preserve national security.
Mao Ning, spokesperson from the Chinese foreign ministry said that China is strongly against restrictions as a means to achieve this goal. “to intervene and limit normal economic and trade exchanges between Chinese and Dutch companies.”
Late last year, the U.S. imposed a number of export restrictions including one to stop China from purchasing certain chips made with U.S. equipment anywhere in the world.
