Iran’s government has been officially warned to halt all plots and schemes involving assassination attempts against former President Donald Trump

The United States cautioned the Middle Eastern country on Monday, according to Reuters. Any attempt by Iran to harm the former president would be considered an “act of war,” U.S. officials said on Monday.

President Joe Biden has been provided regular assessments and briefings on Iran’s looming threats. He has reportedly directed officials to formulate strategies for any potential Iranian threats against Trump or any other American, Reuters reported. This included notifying high-level government officials in Tehran to “cease all plotting against Trump and former U.S. officials.”

The revelation of Iran’s threats against Trump comes as tensions between the countries have reached their highest level in several years. These Iranian threats were discussed during Rep. Michael Waltz’s appearance on Fox News’s The Story with Martha MacCallum on Monday, the Washington Examiner previously reported.

“I am hearing that there is hand-wringing within the administration about the validity of the threat, and my point is even if it’s only 5% possibility, the … gosh, I mean, how this would tear the country apart, the catastrophic effect,” Waltz said during his segment with guest host Gillian Turner.

“This would be an act of war, and America would come apart at the seams. And look, Gillian, public service should not be a death sentence,” Waltz declared. “We need to give him every asset. The administration said President Trump has the same level of security as Biden and Harris. Biden and Harris are flying in military planes with all of their defenses, we need the same for President Trump too, to match this unprecedented threat.”

Iran has denied knowing of any such plot and rebuffed accusations of interfering in U.S. affairs, Reuters reported. The country did, however, accuse the U.S. of meddling in Iran’s affairs multiple times over the last 70 years, starting with a 1953 coup against a prime minister in Iran and the 2020 drone strike that killed Qasem Soleimani, an Iranian general.

Despite the country’s denial, U.S. officials claimed to have been tracking potential assassination attempts against Trump for years, according to reports. Any attacks or other threats carried out against any U.S. citizen would be met with “severe consequences,” the White House reiterated.

“We consider this a national and homeland security matter of the highest priority, and we strongly condemn Iran for these brazen threats,” said Sean Savett, White House National Security Council spokesperson. “Should Iran attack any of our citizens, including those who continue to serve the United States or those who formerly served, Iran will face severe consequences.”
