US women’s soccer team’s political stance risks making them insignificant: Alexi Lalas.
Retired Soccer Player Warns of Potential Irrelevance for U.S. Women’s National Team
Renowned soccer player turned Fox Sports analyst, Alexi Lalas, has expressed concern over the U.S. women’s national team‘s recent loss at the FIFA World Cup, suggesting that it puts them at risk of “becoming irrelevant.”
In response to a user’s comment on X (formerly known as Twitter), Lalas highlighted the team’s “polarizing” politics, which he believes have made them “unlikeable.” This sentiment arose after a group of players refused to sing the national anthem during Sunday’s game.
“Don’t kill the messenger. This #USWNT is polarizing,” Lalas posted. “Politics, causes, stances, & behavior have made this team unlikeable to a portion of America. This team has built its brand and has derived its power from being the best/winning. If that goes away they risk becoming irrelevant.”

Former President Trump Weighs In
Former President Donald Trump also voiced his opinion on the matter, taking to Truth Social to assert that the team’s lack of respect for their nation ultimately cost them the game.
It is worth noting that Megan Rapinoe, one of the players on the U.S. team, is not only recognized for her soccer skills but also for her activism in support of LGBT rights and gender equality. In fact, she was honored with the Presidential Medal of Freedom last year. Rapinoe has previously announced that this year’s World Cup would be her final appearance.
