Utah Man Robs Bank For $1 Because He Wants To Go To Federal Prison
The 65-year old Utah Man was actually trying to get to prison when he stole a bank account on Monday.
Donald Santacroce 65, entered a Wells Fargo in Salt Lake City to politely demand $1. After that, he just sat there and waited for police to come and arrest him. According to local news reportsBecause he was going to prison, the suspect tried the robbery.
An arrest affidavit was obtained from a local outlet. KSL.comThe suspect entered the bank, and gave the teller a check that stated: “Please pardon me for doing this but this is a robbery. Please give me $1. Thank you.” He gave him the dollar, and asked for his departure. But he said that he would call the police.
He refused to go. “Donald sat down in the bank lobby and waited for police to arrive,” The affidavit stated. “While waiting for police, Donald made a statement to the victims that they are lucky (he) didn’t have a gun because it was taking the police so long to get there. At this point the branch manager said she ushered all of her employees into a back room for their safety where she locked the doors.”
Santacroce was arrested by the police when they arrived on the scene. Santacroce returned his dollar bill to officers. “Donald said he had done this because he wanted to get arrested and go to federal prison. Donald stated that if he gets out of jail, he will rob another bank and ask for more money next time trying to get the desired result of going to federal prison,” The affidavit was stated.
At 6:15 p.m., he was arrested at the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one count of felony burglary. According to NBC NewsHe was not in custody on Wednesday. He does not seem to have been involved in this incident before. KSL reported that Santacroce, who was charged with driving under the influences and reckless driving, was detained by Utah Highway Patrol Iron County last week. The State Troopers also noted that Santacroce had a Missouri driver’s license which was currently suspended.
Federal crime is to rob a bank. According to 18 U.S. Code § 2113Simply entering any bank, savings or loan association or credit union to steal or exort property can lead to a penalty of up to 20 years in jail. An additional penalty for taking property worth less than $1000 is a fine, and up to one year imprisonment.

One year later, it was still there. homeless man California, Orange County: A Wells Fargo employee broke into the bank and handed a demand notice to a teller. The man later confessed to the authorities that he had done it in order to get shelter and medical care while in prison.
On Wednesday, Santacroce was still unable to determine the motive for his robbery.
