VA House Stops Democrats From Putting A Right To Partial-Birth Abortion In The State Constitution
Republicans in Virginia defeated a Democrat effort at changing the rules of the legislative house and put on the ballot an amendment that would have codified legal safeguards for abortionists within the commonwealth constitution.
On Feb. 23, Republican delegate voted down a rule to revive the radical in a final vote “Right to Abortion” House Democrats had earlier proposed an amendment in the 2023 session.
This amendment would have approved the killing of unborn babies in Virginia’s Constitution. It also made it possible to fund abortion with taxpayer money and prevented future legislation to protect the unborn.
The amendment does not mention abortion or women in any way. It simply defines a “fundamental right to reproductive freedom” Everybody is born with this ability “individual.”
As seen in a candid Senate bill for 2022The amendment would have allowed disturbing procedures to kill or remove a full term baby from a woman’s body. These techniques include “electrical vacuum aspiration,” “intact dilation and extraction” (or partial-birth abortion) “intrafetal injection” List of poisonous chemicals
This bill would have granted abortionists the right to choose an alternate method of death through a provision “Method not listed” With almost no restrictions. These assaults would have been possible up to birth if the so-called Right to Abortion Amendment had been passed. The advocates did not apologize for their horrific stance.
It was a week full of “hysteria, manipulation and lies,” Olivia Gans Turner, President of Virginia Society for Human Life.
Democrat delegates claimed that Republicans wanted to end abortion on demand and kill mothers. They said Republicans wanted to get into a woman’s life. “bedroom” Enacting laws that protect unborn babies
Del. Candi Munson King, D.Prince William, testified that Republicans sought out to “control” women’s bodies.
Meanwhile, Del. Kathy Byron (R-Bedford) Referred The pro-abortion argument is as follows: “manipulative and misleading” Because it has a goal “to hide just how extreme this [amendment] proposal is.” In her February 22 testimonyShe noted that “offensive” Witnesses from Democrats who supported the amendment. They refused to use it consistently “baby” When presenting their arguments, “infant, child, and mother haven’t received much notice either,” She spoke.
“Let us be honest and direct about exactly what this proposed amendment to our constitution would do,” Byron.:
It would abolish all restrictions regarding abortion, including the parental notification requirement as well as prohibitions against taxpayer-funded abortions. It would allow abortions on demand until and including the moment that the baby is born. This makes it more violent than RoeThe amendment acknowledged that the child had the right to protections during the third trimester. This amendment does not offer such protections. This is the most extreme position anyone can take on abortion.
Republicans are on the House Courts of Justice Subcommittee The amendment was repealed on February 17 in a partisan 5-3 voteHowever, pro-abortion delegates tried to force a second vote by rule change on the legislation. This would have allowed the amendment to be reintroduced that was not approved earlier in the session.
Del. Marcus Simon (D-Fairfax) organized the required five days’ testimony in order to bring the amendment to a new vote on the floor before it was over. Republicans stopped the rule-change, ending the possibility of a second vote on the amendment in the midst of the session. 50-45 Vote according to party lines
Unlimitless Abortion
Current Virginia law The third trimester bans abortion There are some exceptions. According to a recent poll According to The Wason Center, Virginians don’t want unborn and women to be subject to more abortions.
However, Democrats are still fervently advocating for an increase in abortions, almost unlimited, in the commonwealth. They aren’t primarily concerned about the health of mothers as demonstrated by their efforts to dispose Human rights laws to protect survivors of abortion. During the regular session of 2023, Democrats also defeated bills that would have made it possible to publish a free informational website. It would have listed support options for mothers and required doctors for written consent from women before they could perform an abortion.
Elections and the Future of Abortion
Virginia has two General Assemblies that must pass a constitutional amend to be eligible for the ballot. Gans-Turner stated that right-to-abortion states have blocked or removed pro-life legislation in Michigan, New York and Oregon.
“This is a hive mentality, and it is deadly,” Gans-Turner said. “The only successful way for us to block it is to ensure we have a strong pro-life majority in both chambers.”
The Virginia legislature’s 140 seats will all be up for election in November.
“Pro-abortion proponents in the legislature this session reminded us how important it is to have in place at least leadership who respects human life,” Del. Dave LaRock, R. Loudoun “The general public does not agree with very late-term abortion, but if voters don’t get in the game we will be ruled by people who make decisions that are not reflective of our people
