Stephen Colbert, a vaccine advocate, halts show production due to doctor’s orders.
Stephen Colbert Halts Filming of Show Due to COVID-19
Late-night host Stephen Colbert had to pause the production of his CBS show this week as he has once again contracted COVID-19.
Deadline reported on Monday that he would be recording “The Late Show” from his home after testing positive for the virus.
However, on Wednesday, Colbert announced a change of plans.
He stated on the show’s social media account, “Sorry to say, per doctor’s orders, I’m going to be out for the rest of the week.”
Colbert continued, “Resting up so that I can deliver the handcrafted, artisanal talk show that we so enjoy serving you.”
He humorously added, “In the meantime, a heady blend of Paxlovid and onions in my socks (thank you, Fallon) will be rebuilding my immune system,” referring to NBC late-night host Jimmy Fallon.
An image of a get-well box featuring socks and onions was attached to the post.

This isn’t Colbert’s first encounter with COVID-19. He previously had the virus in April 2022 and had to cancel a few shows.
A month later, he had to once again halt production as he was ”experiencing symptoms consistent with a recurrence of COVID,” according to a post by “The Late Show” account.
Stephen is experiencing symptoms consistent with a recurrence of COVID. Out of an abundance of caution for his staff, guests, and audience, he will be isolating for a few additional days. The Late Show will not be taping new episodes until further notice.

The late-night host has been a vocal advocate for the COVID-19 vaccine.
He featured an “educational segment” on his show called “The Vax-Scene” where he aimed to encourage viewers to get vaccinated.
In this segment, he cleverly reworked iconic songs to promote the coronavirus vaccine. For instance, the “Late Show” version of the 1954 song “Mr. Sandman” had these lyrics:
Sandman, go get the jab.
It’s safe! It’s made by scientists in a lab.
Colbert also put his own spin on the iconic “Tequila” dance performed by Paul Reubens in “Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.”
In Colbert’s version, he and four individuals dressed in syringe costumes danced around, replacing the word “tequila” with “vaccine.”

What are breakthrough COVID-19 infections and why have Colbert’s experiences with them emphasized the need for continued precautions?
He Lion Sleeps Tonight” by singing:
Weem-a-wep, a-wem-a-wep, a-wem-a-wep, a-wep-a-wem!
In the jungle, the mighty jungle, the vaccine waits tonight!
Colbert’s playful and creative approach to promoting the vaccine has resonated with his audience and has been praised by health officials.
However, despite his advocacy, Colbert has unfortunately experienced breakthrough COVID-19 infections.
Breakthrough infections occur when fully vaccinated individuals contract the virus, although their symptoms may be milder compared to those who are unvaccinated.
Colbert’s breakthrough infections highlight the importance of continued precautions, such as wearing masks and practicing social distancing, even for those who are fully vaccinated.
The late-night host’s decision to pause production and prioritize his health and the safety of his staff and audience is commendable.
While fans may be disappointed by the temporary hiatus of “The Late Show,” it serves as a reminder that COVID-19 is still a reality and that everyone must remain vigilant in protecting themselves and others.
As Colbert receives treatment and takes the time to recover, his audience eagerly awaits his return to the screen for more of his witty commentary and satirical humor.
In the meantime, viewers can enjoy a dose of laughter by revisiting classic moments from previous episodes of ”The Late Show” or catching up on other late-night programs.
It is hoped that Colbert’s experience with COVID-19 encourages others to get vaccinated and take necessary precautions to reduce the spread of the virus.
By sharing his own journey and continuing to promote vaccine awareness, he plays a crucial role in combating misinformation and ensuring the health and well-being of his fans and the wider community.
As Colbert himself once said, “We can only defeat this disease if we’re smart and we’re tough together.”
Let us hope for a speedy recovery for Stephen Colbert and a swift return to the show that brings us laughter and thought-provoking satire during these challenging times.
