Vance expressed that the Democratic Party’s campaign is focused on superficial appeals rather than substantive policies, especially in light of Harris’s unmet promises to tackle inflation “on Day One.” He pointed out that inflation issues have persisted for over three years, attributing them to Harris’s policies. Vance emphasized the need for practical solutions to alleviate economic struggles for hardworking Americans and prevent drug-related deaths, advocating for a clear vision for the country’s future. Both candidates are set to debate on CBS News on October 1, and Vance has proposed additional debates for greater voter engagement.

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) argued voters are “too smart” to support Vice President Kamala Harris’s presidential bid, citing how groceries and other everyday items are more expensive than they were under former President Donald Trump.
The Republican vice presidential nominee contended that the Democratic Party is running a presidential ticket “purely on vibes” and that it will not work with the majority of voters. He also rebuked Harris for making campaign promises at rallies to address inflation “on Day One.”
“Well, Day One, Laura, was 3 1/2 years ago,” Vance said on Fox News’s The Ingraham Angle. “Her policies are what caused the inflation crisis, and the American people, I think, are just too smart to buy this garbage. It’s why we continue to win this race.”
Vance also contrasted how he and Trump have been making multiple appearances with the press and at other events, and that “it’s a shame” that the Harris-Walz campaign will not address the press or voters. He argued this is because the Trump campaign has a “clear” vision for the nation.
“We don’t think that Americans who work hard and play by the rules should struggle to afford groceries,” Vance said. “We don’t think our children should be killed by fentanyl and we have a vision for how to implement public policies that are going to secure that border, cut down on the drugs, and bring the cost of everything from groceries to housing down to reasonable levels.”
Both Walz and Vance have agreed to debate each other on CBS News on Oct. 1, with the Ohio senator also offering to debate Walz on CNN on Sept. 18. During his Wednesday night interview, Vance argued there should be more than one debate so voters can see the two vice presidential candidates discuss their views.
The next presidential debate, meanwhile, is set for Sept. 10 on ABC News. Trump originally wanted to debate Harris on Fox News, but has since decided to stick to the original date agreed to when President Joe Biden was still seeking reelection.
