Vance meets with Pope Francis on Easter- Washington Examiner

on Easter day, U.S. Vice President JD Vance met with Pope Francis at the Vatican, marking a significant diplomatic encounter following recent discussions between the Vatican and the White House concerning immigration policies under President Donald Trump. The meeting was described as an opportunity for exchanging Easter greetings. Prior to this, Vance had a cordial meeting with Cardinal Pietro parolin, the Vatican Secretary of State, where various global humanitarian issues, particularly concerning migrants and refugees, were discussed.

During his visit to Italy, Vance also met with Italian leaders, including Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. This visit aligns with Vance’s recent conversion to Catholicism in 2019, reflecting his commitment to Catholic values amid ongoing global discussions of religious and humanitarian issues. The Pope’s public appearance on Easter was noteworthy as it marked his return after a period of health challenges earlier in the year.

For Pope Francis, Easter was a grand return to the public after his extended health battles in the early months of 2025. He took to the crowds in his “popemobile” to greet people who had gathered.

The pope was hospitalized for 38 days earlier this year with various health complications, being released to Vatican City and making his first public appearance at the end of March. He did not attend services for Good Friday and Holy Saturday, but did make an appearance on Sunday for Easter.
