Vance says Trump ‘just doesn’t care’ what critics and media say
Vice President JD Vance chalks up President Donald Trump‘s stick-to-itiveness on controversial decisions to this: He just doesn’t care what his haters say.
“The president, I’m very proud to say, is not a person who is afraid [of] criticism from those in power,” Vance said in a well-timed release Monday of a speech he gave at the Heritage Foundation last week.
“I think if there’s anything that sort of ties the first Trump administration to the second Trump administration and the president’s entire political career, is that this is a guy with incredible courage. He just doesn’t care what other people say about him. He doesn’t care what the media writes about him. He’s going to do what he thinks is right,” Vance added.
The vice president spoke at Heritage last Tuesday night in support of his friend and fellow author Rod Dreher, whose Live Not by Lies: A Manual for Christian Dissidents has been turned into a docuseries produced by Christian-friendly Angel Studios.
Vance referred to Dreher’s book and series when talking up his boss’s effort to boost religious freedom, but he also broadened his message to include Trump’s overall impact on the nation and world.
Trump has faced his harshest criticism since he unveiled shocking world trade tariffs aimed at punishing nations that hit America with unfairly high tariffs and moving to a tariff-free trading model.
As with most everything Trump does, critics have lined up to assail the president, especially as world stock markets have reacted negatively to his tariffs.
Vance said the president has a history of shrugging off the complaints because he believes he is right even if there isn’t an instant payoff, as the country has seen in Wall Street’s sell-off during the past week.

“One of the things that makes me most proud of our administration, not that we’ve won every battle, or won every battle. Some of these battles are going to take 20, 30, 40 years for us to see, I think, through to ultimate victory,” Vance said.
“Ultimately, God calls the shots. He is in control. And if we keep on fighting and we keep on working and we keep on having faith and we keep on pursuing the values that we know are right, I really do believe that we are going to see great things happen. Great things happen in the United States of America, and great things happen all across the West. I know the president knows this. The president believes this,” Vance said.
