During Monday’s inauguration, Vice President J.D. Vance‘s family captured the public’s adoration as they watched the second family’s young children brave through a long day of historic events.

Vance and his wife, Usha, alongside their three children — Ewan, Vivek, and Mirabel — joined him as he was sworn in as the 50th vice president inside the Capitol Rotunda on Monday.

During the swearing-in, Vance’s wife held the Bible for her husband while she adoringly looked on and balanced their 3-year-old daughter on her hip.

Their toddler looked out at the crowd while she sucked her thumb, seemingly oblivious to the momentous event happening right in front of her.

Inauguration watchers gushed about the little girl’s cute bandaid-covered fingers with cartoon characters Bluey and Scooby-Doo.

“I think the whole country can come together and agree that JD Vance’s daughter sucking her thumb with those kid bandages on her other fingers is totally adorable,” one mother said on X.

“The bandaids on JD Vance’s daughter’s fingers are taking me out. You know there are NO cuts under there and they just needed to put them on because she insisted and they needed her to behave,” a Virginia mother laughed in a post on X.

“JD Vance’s daughter covering herself with bandaids just ahead of an important event is an iconic toddler move,” another mother reacted on X.

“Mirabel Vance is actually the most powerful person in the room,” former RNC spokeswoman Cassie Smedile Docksey said on X, adding, “Toddler’s are ruthless negotiators.”

“It does feel a little comforting that the Vance’s kids are stealing the show. Your mom may have clerked for two Supreme Court justices. Your dad may be the Vice President. But toddlers gonna toddler,” another mother remarked on X.

Inauguration viewers were also amused by the exhausted Vance children, Ewan, 7, and Vivek, 4, leaning against the wall near the presidential seal in front of their father and the president.

“The media tried to convince us JD Vance was ‘weird.’ As a mom with three boys 4 and under, I can tell you there’s nothing more relatable than a kid covered in bandaids,” another woman said.

“The Vance kids are a vibe,” an X user said.

“I have been a dad too long because all I can think about is how bored and tired JD Vance’s kids must be,” Canadian journalist Richard Warnica sympathized on social media.

One of the Vance sons was also spotted carrying around a teddy bear.

“JD Vance’s kids are stealing the show at the inaugural parade,” Washington Examiner White House correspondent Christian Datoc said posting the video on X.

The Vance family will now be living in the Naval Observatory residence, which is the home to the nation’s vice president.

In November following the election win, Usha Vance had reached out, through intermediaries, to Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff’s team to coordinate details about the home in order to help them figure out how to the childproof it for their young children.

Harris reportedly declined the courtesy of inviting the Vances to the residence before the inauguration. Vance’s wife had a phone conversation with Emhoff, according reports.

The Vance family is leaving their home in Alexandria, Virginia, where they dealt with progressive neighbors who regularly protested the young family because of their Republican politics.

His neighbors held “childless cat ladies” parties in the park next to the family’s fence that surrounded their home. Neighbors also promoted one event on the BlueSky app that touted how they planned to blast anti-Trump karaoke music outside the Vance home. Secret Service had to close down the park due to security precautions for the family following Trump’s announcement of Vance joining his presidential ticket and the increased concerns following Trump’s assassination attempt.
