Venezuelan immigrant seeks financial support for Times Square shooting suspect’s legal expenses
A Venezuelan Man Calls on Social Media Followers to Support Times Square Shooting Suspect
A Venezuelan man who recently immigrated to the United States is using his large social media following to rally support for the 15-year-old suspect involved in the Times Square shooting. Leonal Moreno, known as leitooficial_25 on TikTok, is urging his followers to come together and contribute towards the legal fees of the young Venezuelan immigrant.
“I invite you to find [his] mother and [for] all of us to unite to pay the fines [so] that the young Venezuelan feels that he’s not alone during difficult moments. Remember that up there, there’s a God who sees everything [down here],” said Moreno.
Moreno emphasizes the importance of unity and support, stating that the young suspect should not feel abandoned during this challenging time. He believes that as Venezuelans, it is their responsibility to stand together and provide Jesus Alejandro Rivas-Figueroa with an opportunity for a better future.
Rivas-Figueroa was arrested on February 9 for allegedly shooting at a police officer and injuring a tourist in Times Square. He is being tried as an adult and is also linked to an armed robbery in the Bronx on January 27.
Moreno’s plea for assistance has gained significant attention, with his post receiving over 2.5 million views. As an influencer, Moreno often shares his experiences of life in the United States, including stories of struggling on the streets and relying on government aid.
“You came to the United States to work, and I came to vacation. Look at the difference. You and I didn’t come with the same purpose. You came to the United States to pay the taxes that you didn’t pay in Venezuela,” he expressed in one of his videos.
Moreno’s passionate call for support highlights the challenges faced by immigrants and the importance of standing together as a community.

How can individuals use social media responsibly and consider the consequences of their actions, especially when it comes to promoting violence or supporting suspects before a fair trial has taken place?
Resides in the United States has recently stirred controversy by using social media to rally support for the Times Square shooting suspect. This shocking incident occurred on May 8, 2021, and left three innocent bystanders injured. It is disheartening to witness someone condoning such a heinous act of violence, especially when it involves innocent civilians.
The suspect in question, Farrakhan Muhammad, is a 31-year-old male from Harlem. He was apprehended on May 12 after a four-day manhunt conducted by the New York City Police Department. The incident occurred in one of the busiest areas of New York City, and it is fortunate that only minor injuries were sustained. However, the psychological impact on the victims and witnesses cannot be overlooked.
What is particularly disturbing is that a member of the Venezuelan community, residing in the United States, has chosen to publicly support this individual through various social media platforms. The man, whose identity we choose not to reveal, has been rallying support and urging his followers to lend their support to Muhammad.
This individual’s actions are not representative of the Venezuelan community as a whole, nor are they reflective of the values and beliefs held dear by the majority of Venezuelan immigrants. It is crucial to emphasize that this is an isolated incident involving one individual who does not speak for an entire population.
It is crucial to approach this situation with sensitivity and without generalizing the actions of one individual. The vast majority of Venezuelans who chose to immigrate to the United States, and elsewhere globally, did so to escape violence, instability, and oppression in their home country. They sought safety, opportunity, and a chance at a better future for themselves and their families.
It is essential to remember that the foundation of any thriving society is built on the principle of law and order. By advocating for support of a person accused of a violent crime, this Venezuelan man undermines the efforts made by the Venezuelan community as a whole to integrate and contribute positively to their new home country.
Social media platforms have a significant impact on public opinion and can be instrumental in shaping public discourse. Therefore, it is crucial for individuals to utilize these platforms responsibly and with consideration for the consequences of their actions. Supporting and promoting violence only perpetuates a culture of fear and further divides communities.
Law enforcement agencies and judicial systems exist to investigate crimes, assess evidence, and ensure a fair trial for all individuals involved. It is imperative that we allow these institutions to carry out their duties without undue interference or prejudice. Advocating for support of a suspect before a trial has taken place undermines the presumption of innocence, a fundamental principle of any civilized society.
In conclusion, the actions of one Venezuelan man who is rallying support for the Times Square shooting suspect do not reflect the values or beliefs of the majority of Venezuelan immigrants. It is crucial to approach this situation with sensitivity, without generalizing or stereotyping an entire community. Upholding the principles of justice, preserving the presumption of innocence, and promoting unity in our communities should be our collective priority. Let us stand together against violence and work towards a society that is safe and inclusive for all.
