Disturbingly, at least one member of Tren de Aragua has been linked to the murder of a retired police officer in South Florida. Yurwin Salazar-Maita, a 23-year-old gang member, played a role in luring, abducting, and ultimately killing the officer in November. This brutal tactic is commonly employed by the gang in Venezuela and other parts of Latin America.
One identifying feature of Tren de Aragua members is a train tattoo. This distinct mark serves as a warning sign of their involvement in criminal activities.
According to Rolando Vazquez, an immigration lawyer, the gang is involved in a wide range of criminal activities, including extortion, sex trafficking, drug trafficking, and contract killings. Vazquez himself has received threats from this dangerous group.
Salazar-Maita is facing multiple charges, including robbery, home invasion, kidnapping, carjacking, and first-degree murder.
