CINCINNATI (WXIX) – Bengals Defensive End Sam Hubbard ran back a Ravens fumble 98 yards to give the Bengals the lead 24-17 over the Ravens in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s game.
”The Cincinnati kid!” NBC’s Mike Tirico shouts in another memorable call from the legendary sports announcer.
Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley attempted to get the ball over the goal line with a sneak. Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson threw the ball out. Hubbard recovered the ball, and the Cincinnati native ran to pay dirt.
“You can’t even dream that one up,” Hubbard added that postgame. Hubbard said postgame that he would get the ball back from that point. “I’ll cherish that one.”
It was the longest TD in the 4th Quarter in NFL postseason history according to NFL Research. It also was the longest fumble-return TD in NFL postseason record.
“Got dinged for that 4.9 at the combine,” Hubbard spoke. “Guess that doesn’t matter now.”
Hubbard ran 123 yards to score the touchdown, which was the longest by an NFL ball carrier this season, according To Next Gen Stats. Next Gen Stats data show that his speed was 17.43 mph, which is third fastest for a defensive lineman as ball-carriers this season.
“That was awesome for the hometown kid to finish that way,” Post-game, Zac Taylor was the head coach.
“He’s what this whole thing is build on: toughness, hard work, leadership. Those are the kind of guys we try to bring in here,” said quarterback Joe Burrow. “He’s one of my best friends. He comes up with big plays over and over again. He’s a great leader, gets his work done, a constant positive attitude in the locker room… exactly the kind of guy you want on your team.”
The Bengals’ win probability went from 46 percent to 88 percent following the play, per the same Next Gen Stats tweet.
“That man is a dog,” Joe Mixon stated that he was running back. “He always comes to work and he works hard. He’s a leader and he always leads by example. He’s forever gonna be a main core piece around here.”
