During the finale of a Detroit-area air show on Sunday, two pilots made a daring escape from a crashing jet. Spectators captured the heart-stopping moment on video as the ejection seats shot out of the low-flying military aircraft and parachutes opened.

A black plume of smoke billowed from the ground after the pilots safely ejected from the aircraft.

Another video captured the smoke coming from the aircraft as the pilots ejected, possibly from the plane’s ejection mechanism.

In a surprising twist, the pilots were operating a Soviet-era MiG-23 jet fighter aircraft. The Wayne County Airport Authority confirmed that the accident did not result in any injuries or damage to facilities.
The cause of the crash is still unknown, and the Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the incident.
A photo taken before the crash shows the aircraft adorned with imagery from the armed forces of the former Soviet Union.

The MiG-23, a third-generation jet fighter, first took flight in 1967 and is still in service in some Third-World countries.
Fortunately, no one was injured at the air show or the apartment complex where the plane crashed into the parking lot. The Federal Aviation Administration is currently investigating the incident.
