Viral Veep: Double-Boosted Kamala Harris Catches COVID

Two weeks ago after White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Vice President Kamala Harris was allowed to break COVID-19 protocols on an “emotional” and “historic” day, Harris has tested positive for COVID-19.

Harris, who has received four doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, “tested positive for COVID-19 on rapid and PCR tests,” press secretary Kirsten Allen announced on Tuesday. The vice president had just returned from a weeklong trip to California, where she held multiple events, when the tests came back positive.

Allen said Harris “has not been a close contact to the president or first lady due to their respective recent travel schedules.”

Harris was at the White House on Tuesday morning, CNN reported.

The White House just weeks ago said Harris was a close contact of 79-year-old President Joe Biden, the Washington Examiner reported.

Psaki, who this spring will leave the Biden administration to become an MSNBC host, at the time attempted to justify Harris’s masklessness at Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation ceremony.

“It was an emotional day. It was a historic day,” Psaki said April 11. “And there were moments when [Harris] was not wearing a mask inside.”

Harris is only the latest high-ranking Democrat to come down with COVID-19, following Psaki, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (Calif.), Attorney General Merrick Garland, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Senators Chris Murphy (Conn.) and Ron Wyden (Ore.), and others.
