Virginia Democrats go on extravagant Africa trip using taxpayer funds.
Loudoun County Officials Spend Taxpayer Money on Luxurious Trip to Africa
Three Democratic elected officials in Virginia recently embarked on a trip to Africa, funded by taxpayer money. The trip included extravagant accommodations in five-star luxury hotels and business class tickets.
Phyllis Randall, the board chair of Loudoun County, along with two other county supervisors, Sylvia Glass and Koran Saines, traveled to Africa in June. Their purpose was to sign a sister city agreement with the mayor of Tema, Ghana. However, receipts and travel documents obtained by ABC affiliate 7News reveal that the officials indulged in lavish expenses and spent most of their time sightseeing.
In an interview with 7News, Randall was questioned about why they chose to fly business class, especially in contrast to Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, who typically flies economy on commercial flights. Randall defended their decision, stating, ”Pete Buttigieg is not the chief elected official of the federal government. I am the chief elected official of the county.”
This revelation comes after Randall’s association with a controversial Facebook group called “Loudoun Love Warriors” was exposed. Members of the group have been accused of doxxing and threatening parents who spoke at school board meetings in Loudoun County. The county sheriff’s office has initiated an investigation into the group’s activities, although Randall has condemned their behavior.
In addition to the exorbitant business class tickets costing ,300 each, taxpayers also footed the bill for Saines’s $200 overweight bag fee and a room upgrade for Randall, which doubled the cost of her hotel stay. Randall has acknowledged that the county should not have paid for the upgrade and has promised to reimburse the difference.
