VA Governor Glenn Youngkin won’t run for president in 2024.
Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin Focused on State, Not Presidential Campaign
Virginia Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin has put to rest rumors of a 2024 presidential campaign, stating that he is solely focused on governing his state. Youngkin made the announcement during a “Governing America” conversation with the Milken Institute, responding to a question from Wall Street Journal Editor-at-Large Gerard Baker.
Virginia First
Youngkin emphasized his commitment to Virginia, stating that he wants to hold the Republican-controlled House and flip the Democratic-controlled Senate during the upcoming full re-election. He believes that Virginia is doing a great job and wants to bring that to voters’ attention.
While Youngkin left himself some “wiggle room” by specifying that he is focusing on his state “this year,” entering the race in 2024 would put him far behind other Republican candidates in fundraising and limit his time before the Iowa caucuses.
Other Republicans Opting Out
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and former Maryland Governor Larry Hogan have also evaluated the prospects of entering the 2024 presidential race and decided against it.
