Virginia School Board Rejects Biden Admin’s Offer to ‘Mediate’ Trans Policy Deliberations
A Virginia School District Rejects Biden Administration’s Offer to Mediate Gender Transition Policy
A Virginia school district has declined an offer from the Biden administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) to act as a mediator in a dispute over implementing guidelines from Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin. These guidelines state that school districts cannot transition the gender of a child without parental consent. The district’s chairman, Brent Hudson, informed two U.S. congressmen, Representatives Ben Cline and Morgan Griffith, about the rejection.
Reps. Cline and Griffith became aware of the DOJ’s attempt to intervene in the local political matter through a report from The Daily Wire. The DOJ claimed it had the authority to mediate due to ”ongoing community tensions in Roanoke following the release of the new model policies for transgender students.” This reference was made in relation to two leftist activists who were arrested for protesting a meeting regarding the implementation of the policy.
The congressmen urged Chairman Hudson to reject the offer, emphasizing that decisions regarding Roanoke County school matters should be made by parents, elected school board members, and taxpayers, rather than unelected bureaucrats from Washington. Fortunately, Hudson had already rejected the offer.
“We have rejected the offer from CRS and agree that it would not be in the best interest of our community to allow them here in Roanoke County,” stated Hudson.
Rep. Cline expressed his support for the school board’s decision, asserting that the Biden administration has no right to interfere in local affairs. He cited the administration’s track record in Virginia, including comparing concerned parents at school board meetings to domestic terrorists.
“Whether it’s targeting concerned parents in Loudoun County or seeking to intervene as a ‘mediator’ in Roanoke County School Board deliberations, the Biden DOJ has no right to try to insert itself into important issues facing parents and students,” said Cline. “I applaud the Roanoke County School Board for rejecting the agency’s politicized attempt to overstep its authority and ensuring that the elected board members are the ones making the decisions.”
The DOJ’s Community Relations Service claims to be an impartial mediator that intervenes to prevent violence in communities. However, when asked by The Daily Wire, it could not provide any evidence of hate crimes in Roanoke County related to the policy. The Community Relations Service has shown bias on transgender issues, conducting training programs for law enforcement officers on engaging with transgender communities and celebrating the ”Transgender Day of Visibility” in collaboration with the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.
Glenn Youngkin won Roanoke County by a significant margin in the 2021 election. His model policy for Virginia schools regarding transgender students emphasizes parental involvement and decision-making, stating that parents should be informed and have the final say in how their child’s gender expression is addressed.
