Vogue published a sniping article about first lady Melania Trump in reaction to her White House portrait.
“Melania Trump Cosplays The Apprentice in Her Official White House Portrait” was the headline of the article by Vogue writer Hannah Jackson.
“The sober black-and-white photograph by Régine Mahaux features Trump, the Washington Monument towering over her shoulder, resting her fingers on a reflective black desk and staring down the camera as if to say, ‘You’re fired,’” Jackson said of the portrait.

“Trump looked more like she was guest starring on an episode of The Apprentice than assuming the role of first lady of the United States,” the writer continued. “Trump’s clothing certainly didn’t help the boardroom pastiche.”
“The choice to wear a tuxedo — as opposed to a blazer or blouse — made Trump look more like a freelance magician than a public servant,” the article read.
The Vogue writer’s blistering review of the first lady’s portrait continued its brutal critique.
“Now, attempting a no-nonsense businesswoman approach in her situationally inappropriate tuxedo, it seems that Melania Trump still struggles with sartorial messaging,” Jackson said in the article.
“For a magazine that purports to champion women… why are they so terrified of, and not respectful of, a first lady who comes in and says, ‘I am powerful, too’?” Fox News host Emily Compagno reacted to Vogue’s criticism.
Despite Trump’s high-fashion savvy as a former model, Vogue Global Editorial Director Anna Wintour has appeared to shut out the first lady over politics.
Vogue celebrated former first lady Jill Biden in several magazine covers during the Biden presidency. The former first lady’s last Vogue cover was revealed in July amid nationwide scrutiny over her husband’s dismal presidential debate performance against his Republican rival, now-President Donald Trump. The former first lady received scrutiny during the timing of her Vogue cover as she attempted to continue to campaign for him until his presidential bid ended weeks later.
Former first ladies Hillary Clinton and Michelle Obama and former Vice President Kamala Harris were also on multiple Vogue covers.
In one of his final ceremonies at the White House, President Joe Biden awarded Wintour with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, among 18 other celebrities in January.
During Donald Trump’s inauguration last week, first lady Melania Trump and first daughter Ivanka Trump were widely praised for their stunning fashions.
