VP Harris Claims You Can Hold Pro-Life Beliefs And Still Be Pro-Abortion

Vice President Kamala Harris recently attended an abortion rights conference in Connecticut on Wednesday where she attempted to convince the crowd that you can support abortion while still holding religiously based pro-life beliefs.

Harris was in town to show her support for incumbent Rep. Jahana Hayes’ (D-CT) re-election campaign. Also in attendance at the conference was Planned Parenthood President Alexis McGill Johnson.

Audience Poses Sticky Question

Rep. Hayes led Harris into the pro-choice vs. faith quicksand with a question from an audience member.

“What would you say to someone who understands why abortion should be a personal decision between a pregnant person and whomever else they decide to include in the conversation, but believes they can’t reconcile it with their faith?” The question said.

Harris responded saying, “That’s such an important point to raise. It is her choice and it should be her choice to make, if she chooses a consultation with a loved one, with a healthcare provider, with her faith leader.” She added, “I say this: One does not have to abandon their faith or their beliefs to agree that the government should not be making that decision for her. It’s literally that basic.”

Harris glossed over the fact that the government making decisions for someone was not the issue, but essentially, whether or not there was a way to reconcile what you believe vs. what your faith tells you to believe. So who comes out on top?

OK For Thee But Not For Me

Kamala Harris is not the only Democrat politician who might be perplexed as to how to answer the question of professing a faith that teaches that abortion is wrong while very publicly announcing your support for abortion.

President Joe Biden often professes his Catholic faith, but apparently picks and chooses which tenets of the Catholicism he will live by. His confusion over what he supports publicly and politically within the teachings of his faith were on display in a weird tweet about something his father had once said.

Biden tweeted out, “My dad used to say, ‘Joey, don’t compare me to the Almighty. Compare me to the alternative.’ And here’s the deal: Democrats want to codify Roe. Republicans want a national ban on abortion. The choice is clear.”

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is another Democrat who likes to label herself as a “devout Catholic.” Back in May however, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of Pelosi’s home parish in San Francisco, stated that she would be banned from receiving communion there until she abandoned her pro-choice stance.

The controversy is not a new one. When former Secretary of State turned climate czar John Kerry was a presidential candidate in 2004, there was speculation that then-Boston Archbishop Sean O’Malley would prevent Kerry from receiving communion due to Kerry’s pro-choice views.

A Shift Among The Faithful?

The confusing mindset of Kamala Harris and other politicians whose public views rival the tenets of their faith may be unfortunately winning out. A survey of the nation’s Catholics may be a good indication of that.

An AP-NORC poll from June of this year showed that when it comes to receiving the church’s holiest sacrament, 77% said Catholics who identify as LGBTQ+ should not be denied communion.

Of those polled, 76% said those who support the death penalty should not be refused communion, 70% said Catholics who were divorced without an annulment should not be refused, and 66% of practicing Catholics said pro-choice politicians should not be denied communion based on their pro-choice beliefs.

It will be interesting to see if someone on the left will come up with an explanation that seems perfectly plausible to all.
