Walz chosen for VP pick after saying he’s ‘not angling for anything else’
In a meeting before being chosen to be on the 2024 Democratic presidential ticket with Vice President Kamala Harris, Gov. Tim Walz (D-MN) expressed that he had no political ambitions beyond serving as vice president, according to a report.
Walz told Harris, “I’m at the end of my career. This is not about me. This is about America’s working families,” according to Politico.
According to an unnamed source, Walz gave the interview Sunday night at the Naval Observatory sitting across from Harris.
“And if I have to run through a brick wall, if I have to do the hard things,” Walz reportedly said, “I’m willing to do it because I’m not angling for anything else.”
According to the report, the “low ego” and “dutiful approach” helped elevate the “affable Midwesterner” in the eyes of Harris’s team above the competition.
“Progressives see him as a trustworthy guy,” an unnamed aide told Politico. “He has bipartisan cred that moderates respect.”
The aide further said Walz was “probably the person with no organized group working against him,” while Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) and Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) had vocal opposition among anti-Israel groups and labor leaders, according to the report.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the Harris campaign for comment.
