Warren tells grieving Harris supporters to look for ‘opportunities to fight back’
Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) took to Instagram Wednesday to console the disappointed supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris.
As of Thursday morning, Donald Trump ran away with 295 Electoral College votes in the 2024 election. Warren addressed the voters who gave Harris her 226 votes.
“I will not ask you to look for any silver linings. I will not ask you to feel anything but grief right now. Donald Trump won the election, and the consequences will be real and devastating, but I’m reminding myself and you that on the road ahead, there will still be opportunities to fight back,” Warren said. “So as the far right works to roll back what we’ve achieved, they’ll hope that we don’t have the stomach to push back anymore, but we can choose to prove them wrong.”
Warren pointed to the retention of the Affordable Care Act even when Trump was elected for the first time in 2016 and his Republican Party held the majorities in the House and the Senate.
“Please take care of yourself. Take the time you need right now to be angry, hurt, confused. Hold your loved ones close. Find opportunities to be in community with others this week. Take social media breaks. Foster your connections. Make new ones,” Warren said. “I will wake up every morning and choose to fight for our families, our freedoms, and our kids futures. I will do everything I can in my position to defend our values.”
The senator concluded her remarks by offering thanks to the Harris campaign volunteers for their efforts. She assured them it is “an honor to keep fighting by your side.”
Warren retained her own seat in the Senate on Tuesday’s election. This will be her third term in the chamber.
