Warren’s attempt to end Tuberville’s abortion standoff with Pentagon fails

Senator Elizabeth Warren fought hard to confirm military promotions in the Senate, but her efforts were blocked by Senator Tommy Tuberville. Tuberville objected to the Defense Department’s abortion policy, which led to a heated debate on the Senate floor. Warren argued that Tuberville was punishing 184 dedicated men and women who serve in our military, all because he personally disagrees with a single policy decision from the Pentagon. However, Tuberville refused to budge and continually blocked Warren’s request for unanimous consent to confirm the promotion of military nominees. This caused a delay in their confirmations, which could have serious national security implications. Despite Warren’s attempts to group nearly all 200 of the senior-level military promotions into one unanimous-consent motion, Senate Republicans continually blocked her efforts. It’s time to end this charade and put national security first.
