Radical environmental activists caused chaos at a London “Pride” parade on Saturday, bringing the procession to a standstill and defacing a float sponsored by Coca-Cola. The disruptive act led to the arrest of several individuals.
Just Stop Oil, a group known for targeting famous works of art, claimed responsibility for the disruption. They argued that the parade organizers failed to condemn new oil and gas leases. The police arrested seven people on charges of “public nuisance.”

Just Stop Oil expressed their dissatisfaction with Pride in London’s association with industries that contribute to the climate crisis. They criticized Coca-Cola, the world’s biggest plastic polluter, for “pinkwashing” themselves by co-opting the event. The LGBTQ+ supporters of Just Stop Oil took action against Pride in London to raise awareness about the complicity of certain industries in worsening the climate crisis.
The disruption caused by the protesters, who identified as LGBT, halted the parade for approximately 15 minutes before the police intervened.
Just Stop Oil emphasized the detrimental impact of new oil and gas leases, stating that they pose a “death sentence” for millions of people, with the LGBTQ+ community being among the most vulnerable.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan expressed his support for peaceful and lawful protests, acknowledging the importance of pressure groups like Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil in holding those with power and influence accountable for addressing the climate emergency.

In a previous incident, individuals associated with Just Stop Oil vandalized Vincent Van Gogh’s iconic “Sunflowers” painting at a London art museum. The suspects, Anna Holland, 20, and Phoebe Plummer, 21, threw tomato soup at the painting but were unable to cause any damage due to its protective glass covering. They were subsequently arrested for criminal damage and aggravated trespassing.
