VIDEO: Biden’s Trans Health Official Affirms Gender-Affirming Treatments as ‘Mental Health Care’
Department of Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary Advocates for Gender-Affirming Care
Rachel Levine, a transgender doctor appointed by President Joe Biden, believes that “gender-affirming care,” including for minors, is crucial for mental health. Levine emphasizes the importance of providing support and care for individuals of all ages.
Normalization of Child Sex Changes
Levine, who advocates for the normalization of child sex changes, recently discussed the topic during an interview with a transgender activist. Despite controversy surrounding irreversible sex reassignment surgeries and puberty blockers, Levine argues that these procedures are essential for mental health care.
“It’s such an important issue for our youth and adults,” Levine said. “We often say that gender-affirming care is health care—gender-affirming care is mental health care—and gender-affirming care is literally suicide-prevention care.”
The Biden official also believes that “pride” should be celebrated beyond just June, declaring the entire season as the “summer of pride.”
“All summer long we will be celebrating the ‘Summer of Pride,'” Levine tweeted last week. “I see it as an opportunity for change in our communities, states, and nation.”
Support for Pediatric Sex-Change Operations
In March, Levine expressed optimism that pediatric sex-change operations have support at “the highest levels” of the Biden administration and believes they will eventually be normalized.
Before joining the administration, Levine directed Pennsylvania nursing homes to accept COVID-positive patients. Despite the policy, Levine moved their own mother into a hotel two months later due to pandemic concerns.
