VIDEO: Black Professor Criticizes Kamala’s ‘False’ Criticism of Florida History Standards

Vice President⁣ Kamala Harris’s Claim ‍on Florida’s Education Standards Debunked

In an unaired ABC News ⁤interview, Florida Board of Education adviser ‌William B. Allen strongly ‌refuted Vice President Kamala Harris’s assertion that ⁣Florida’s new education standards whitewash slavery. Allen, a black emeritus professor from Michigan State University, categorically dismissed Harris’s claim, stating that the standards never portrayed ‍slavery as ⁢beneficial to Africans.

According ⁤to Allen, the standards clearly state that Africans were able to develop skills and aptitudes that served them⁢ both during and after enslavement. These skills were instrumental in their personal benefit ‍and growth. The ⁣standards also extensively cover black⁤ history, encompassing topics such as pre-Revolution plantation life, the contributions ‍of African patriots, the Civil Rights Era, and the sacrifices made by ⁤modern-day African American pioneers, including Harris herself.

Harris, ⁤in a fiery speech, accused Florida ⁣Republicans of attempting to replace history with lies by suggesting that enslaved people ‌benefited‍ from slavery. However, ABC News ⁣only included a small‍ portion of Allen’s⁣ interview in their segment‌ on the standards. The full interview ‌was later‍ released on Twitter by Jeremy Redfern, the press‌ secretary‌ for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

When asked if ‍the board should amend the standards in response to the criticism, Allen firmly rejected the idea, stating ‌that it would effectively erase people’s history. He emphasized the importance of ⁤acknowledging the resourcefulness, resilience, and adaptiveness of his own great-grandfather, who was‍ enslaved, and how these qualities contributed to the prosperity of his family and descendants. Allen ‌concluded that‌ those who misstate the language of the ‍standards are simply not taking the time to read‌ and understand them.
