VIDEO: Nevada Police Flatten Roadblock, Climate Activists Wail
Climate Activists Arrested for Blocking Road at Burning Man Festival
Emotions ran high as climate activists sobbed and screamed when Nevada police officers, defying their makeshift barricades, took them into custody. The officers, rangers from the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribal Police, drove through the barricades and apprehended the protesters at gunpoint. This blockade caused a significant traffic backup for Burning Man festival attendees, who were the target of the demonstrators’ protest against their use of private jets.
The activists, affiliated with climate activist groups Seven Circles and Extinction Rebellion, were arrested for “trespassing on tribal land,” as stated by a ranger captured in a video of the incident. You can read more about it here.
Global Climate Protests Gain Momentum
Climate protesters worldwide have been resorting to disruptive tactics to draw attention to their cause. Just last week, a group shut down a fundraiser for Massachusetts governor Maura Healey (D.). Earlier this year, a climate activist who blocked a highway in Washington, D.C., openly admitted to consciously “disrupting people’s lives.” She even drew a parallel between herself and the civil rights pioneers who were not well-liked during their time.
