After watching both the “Barbie” movie and the recently released “Oppenheimer” film, Shapiro shared his overall assessment with his audience. He didn’t hold back, describing the movie as a “flaming piece of dogs*** piled atop an entire dumpster on fire, piled atop a landfill filled with dogs***.”
According to Shapiro, “Barbie” is one of the worst movies he has ever seen. He did give credit to the production design, but that was about the only positive aspect he found.
Shapiro criticized the film for its lack of substance in the jokes, claiming that all the humor was exhausted within the first 45 seconds. He gave an example of a joke where Barbie turns on the water, but no water comes out because, well, it’s Barbie’s house and there’s no actual water. He found these types of jokes to be repetitive and lacking creativity.
Furthermore, Shapiro questioned the intended audience for the film. He believed it was targeted towards moms and their 8-year-old daughters, based on the previews and the G or PG ratings. However, he argued that the confusing message and mismanaged plot made it difficult to determine whether the film loved or despised Barbie as a character.
Shapiro also criticized the film for its political undertones, suggesting that it promoted the idea of dividing men and women. He believed that the film portrayed a world where men and women are on opposite sides and must ignore each other to achieve happiness.
One aspect of the film that particularly stood out to Shapiro was its portrayal of female power. He sarcastically commented on a scene where a trip to the gynecologist was presented as the epitome of female empowerment.
In his final rating, Shapiro gave the film a negative score, stating that it deserved “negative all the Barbies.”
Overall, Shapiro’s review of “Barbie” was a scathing critique of the film’s plot, characters, humor, and political messaging. It’s safe to say that he did not enjoy the movie.
