Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren Supports Gun Ban

Democratic senator Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) praised a recent ban on carrying guns in public places around Albuquerque, New ⁢Mexico, implemented by the ‍state’s governor.

“A ‍few years‍ back,⁤ D.C. said, ‘We just wanna basically ban carrying guns,’ and good for D.C.,” Warren‌ said on CNN. ⁢”And then an extremist ‌United States Supreme Court said, ‘Nope, we’re not​ gonna let you do it.'”

Warren believes that Washington, D.C. was “right” in their attempt⁢ to ‍reduce gun violence through ⁢a ban.

Warren⁢ was ‌likely referring to District of Columbia v. Heller, the 2008 Supreme Court case that struck ⁣down the⁢ city’s handgun ban. She supports​ gun bans in​ light of the recent controversy in New Mexico.

New Mexico Governor⁤ Implements Gun Ban

Democratic governor Michelle Lujan Grisham recently issued a ban⁣ on the right to carry firearms in⁢ Albuquerque, the state’s largest​ city, and the ⁤surrounding county of Bernalillo. This​ action‌ was taken in response⁢ to the ⁣escalating ⁤violence in the⁤ area and is‍ part of a larger public health emergency addressing ⁤gun violence and ​drug use.

Bernalillo County ⁢sheriff John Allen has⁢ publicly stated that he refuses to enforce the ban, arguing that it is unconstitutional ⁢and could potentially lead ⁤to more violence.

“This order will not do ​anything to curb⁢ gun‍ violence other than punish law-abiding citizens⁢ who‍ have a constitutional right to self-defense,” Allen said.
