WATCH: Jean-Pierre Makes Statement on Biden Serving Full 8 Years That She Immediately Regrets
White House Press Secretary Raises Eyebrows with Remark about Biden’s Second Term
During a press briefing on Tuesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made a statement that caught the attention of many. When asked if President Joe Biden would serve all eight years if reelected, Jean-Pierre responded by saying, “I’m just not going to get ahead of the president…something for him to decide.” This led to speculation about whether Biden would actually serve a full second term.
However, Jean-Pierre quickly clarified her statement on Twitter, assuring the public that Biden would indeed serve all eight years. She explained that her equivocal response was due to concerns about violating the Hatch Act, which prohibits government employees from engaging in political activity.
Biden’s age has been a topic of discussion for voters, as he is already the oldest president in history at 80 years old. If he were to serve a second term, he would be 86 years old at the end of it. This has led some to question whether he would retire before the end of his second term, which would make Vice President Kamala Harris the next in line for the presidency.
Biden’s Statements on Serving One Term
Biden’s announcement of his reelection campaign has brought attention to statements he made in March 2019, suggesting that he might only serve one term to make way for a younger generation of leaders. However, he later added that he might end up serving only one term if elected.
Low Support from Within His Own Party
Biden is facing historically low support from within his own party for reelection, with only 38 percent of Democrats saying they want him to be nominated for a second term. This is in contrast to former presidents Donald Trump and Barack Obama, who both had over 70 percent support from their own party for a second term.
Despite these challenges, Biden has assured the public that he plans to serve all eight years if reelected.
