President-elect Donald Trump will be sworn into office at noon Eastern inside of the Capitol Rotunda.
The inauguration ceremony was moved inside due to the “very cold weather.” The last time the inauguration ceremony took place inside was when President Ronald Reagan was sworn into office in 1985 also due to cold weather.
Temperatures in Washington, D.C., will reach a high of about 24 degrees Monday with wind gusts as high as 31 mph, according to National Weather Service.
Nearly a quarter of a million people purchased inauguration tickets, but with the limited space inside the Capitol Rotunda a vast majority will not be able to attend the indoor swearing-in ceremony.
Following Trump’s swearing in ceremony, Trump will bid farewell to President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. The Capitol departure ceremony will follow.
