WATCH LIVE: House Oversight Committee holds ESG hearing
The House Oversight Committee will hold a hearing on environmental, social, and governance, or ESG, topics on Tuesday.
The joint hearing will be hosted by the Subcommittee for Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs and the Subcommittee for Health Care and Financial Services. This is the second hearing on the topic.
ESG: WHAT IT IS AND HOW IT AFFECTS YOU, EVEN IF YOU DON’T REALIZE IT
The hearing on ESG will feature Mandy Gunasekara, director of the Center for Energy and Conservation under the Independent Women’s Forum, Jason Isaac, director of Life:Powered under the Texas Public Policy Foundation, and Stephen Moore, distinguished fellow in economics at the Heritage Foundation as witnesses.
ESG is a movement centering on compelling social change through investment and divestment. Activists, activist investors, and some major corporations have, for years, gained support for tying investment decisions to ESG considerations. ESG activists look at how investments will affect fossil fuel emissions, in particular.

The topic of ESG has funneled into several partisan legislative pushes, most notably the Inflation Reduction Act. Several centrist Democrats, such as Sen. Joe Manchin (D-WV), have battled President Joe Biden and left-leaning Democrats over green energy and ESG policies.
The hearing will begin at 2 p.m. on Tuesday.
