House Rules Committee to Hold Hearing on Bills Aimed at Preventing Bans on Gas Stoves
The House Rules Committee is set to hold a hearing on Monday afternoon to discuss two bills that aim to prevent bans on gas stoves. This comes after President Joe Biden’s administration proposed energy-efficiency and conservation standards for household appliances earlier this year.
The proposed energy-efficient standards for residential gas furnaces through the Department of Energy are part of an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. However, the bills to be considered include the GOP-led Save Our Stoves Act, which aims to block the Department of Energy’s standards on household stoves and ovens, and the Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act, which seeks to block federal funds to ban gas stoves.
Legislation to be Considered
- Save Our Stoves Act
- Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act
- The Separation of Powers Restoration Act of 2023
- The REINS Act of 2023
The Separation of Powers Restoration Act of 2023 examines the scope of judicial review, and the REINS Act of 2023 explores Congress’s legislative authority. The hearing is set to begin at 2:45 p.m. ET.
“We need to ensure that Americans have the freedom to choose how they heat their homes and cook their food,” said a spokesperson for the House Rules Committee.
