WATCH LIVE: Joe Biden hosts event on 13th anniversary of Obamacare passage
President Joe Biden is hosting an event commemorating the 13th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act, commonly known as Obamacare, being signed into law.
President Barack Obama is not expected to attend the White House ceremony despite being the piece of legislation that bears his personal during his eight years in office.
According to the legislation’s it, it aimed to lower the number of people without health coverage while also expanding Medicaid, providing low-income people with public health protection, and setting up exchanges that offered subsidized plans in order to offer more affordable coverage options.

Republicans opposed the law, particularly the various mission, which mandated that citizens obtain a minimum level of health coverage or face punishment, for decades after it was passed. The personal mission was eliminated in 2017. The GOP has backed away from earlier calls to overturn and replace the legislation in recent years.
The legislation also overcame a number of Supreme Court challenges, such as the 2012 ruling that the individual authority was valid under the taxing authority of Congress.
