U.S. swimming champions Michael Phelps and Allison Schmitt will testify Tuesday at 7 p.m. in Washington, D.C., during a House hearing on anti-doping measures.

The House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations is probing the World Anti-Doping Agency’s report that 23 Chinese swimmers tested positive for trimetazidine ahead of the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Trimetazidine is banned by the Anti-Doping Agency due to its performance-enhancing properties. The agency allowed the Chinese swimmers to compete in the games after Beijing claimed the tests had been contaminated.

Several of the Chinese athletes went on to win gold medals at the Tokyo Olympic Games. Ahead of July’s Paris Games, the Chinese government named 11 of the swimmers who had previously positive for the performance-enhancing drug to its 2024 Olympic swim team.

Phelps, who stands as the most decorated Olympian of all time, and Schmitt will testify before the congressional committee on the need to protect the integrity of the Olympics and enforce anti-doping measures.
