WATCH: Police Detain Greta Thunberg At Anti-Energy Protest; She Smiles While Getting Hauled Away
Greta Thunberg was taken into custody by law enforcement officials Tuesday, at an anti energy protest in Germany. The protest comes as the continent deals with an energy crisis sparked by Russia’s war in Ukraine.
The 20-year old and her friends were protesting demolition of Lutzerath coal mining town in west Germany to make room for an expanded coal mine operation.
Thunberg smiled as German police grabbed her and took her away.
German police claimed that Greta Thunberg and other protesters ran towards an open coal mine ledge before they were stopped by them. “carried out of the immediate danger area.”

This is the second time Thunberg was removed from the multi-day demonstration by force.
Thunberg posted Friday’s demonstration while holding a sign saying, “Keep in in the ground.”
“Climate strike week 230. We are currently in Lützerath, a German village threatened to be demolished for an expansion of a coal mine,” Thunberg spoke. “People have been resisting for years. Join us here at 12 or a local protest tomorrow to demand that #LützerathBleibt !#ClimateStrike”

Germany has expanded Its use of coal has risen to its highest level in over a decade, more than half a century after Russia imposed a ban on natural gas exports from Europe.
Part of the increased France, where there have been problems with nuclear reactors, is the main source of energy demand.
Germany was forced to extend “the lives of Germany’s nuclear power facilities” despite the country’s desire to move away from the clean energy source.
