Republican presidential candidate and Florida Gov. DeSantis, accompanied by volunteers from his super PAC, Never Back Down, walked through the crowds tailgating outside of Jack Trice Stadium. The atmosphere was electric, with chants of “we want Ron” and “make American Florida” echoing through the air, according to the Des Moines Register.
Videos posted online captured the excitement as DeSantis and his entourage made their way through the enthusiastic crowd. However, it wasn’t all cheers for the Florida Governor. Some social media users noted that he also faced jeers and taunts from those who disagreed with his campaign. In one video, a woman’s voice can be heard saying, “This is what stupid looks like.”

Despite the mixed reception, DeSantis remains optimistic about his chances in the January caucuses. Speaking to reporters, he emphasized the importance of showing up and connecting with voters. “We got a lot more to do, but we’re actually putting in the work that you need to be able to win,” DeSantis said. He added that he’s starting to hear more people express their support because of his presence and engagement.
During the game, DeSantis was joined by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds, a graduate of Iowa State. When asked which team he supported, DeSantis tactfully replied that he didn’t want to upset Reynolds. As he walked through the crowd, DeSantis remarked that the atmosphere was “probably a bit more civilized than the Florida-Georgia game down in Jacksonville,” according to the Register.

Former President Donald Trump also attended the game, along with many of his supporters. Other notable figures, such as entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum, and former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, were also present at the event. It was a lively and politically charged atmosphere, showcasing the enthusiasm and engagement of the Iowa community.
