GOP Presidential Hopeful Stands Firm on Controversial Statements
As the GOP primary debate approaches, Vivek Ramaswamy, a Republican presidential hopeful, is defending his recent remarks regarding U.S. aid to Israel and the events of 9/11.
“You weren’t saying that Israel should be treated exactly the same as every other country in the Middle East?” Fox News host Martha MacCallum asked Ramaswamy on Tuesday.
“No! Zero!” Ramaswamy emphatically responded, clarifying that he did not actually make the statements attributed to him from the Russell Brand podcast.
Ramaswamy has been inconsistent in his stance on aid to Israel. In June, he expressed openness to cutting off foreign aid to Israel, but later claimed it was a misunderstanding.
However, during a recent appearance on Brand’s podcast, Ramaswamy stated that he supports reducing U.S. military funding to Israel by 2028, as reported by the Washington Free Beacon. He reiterated this position in an interview with the Free Beacon.
Notably, prominent GOP figures such as Matthew Brooks, CEO of the Republican Jewish Coalition, and presidential hopeful Nikki Haley have strongly criticized Ramaswamy’s stance on aid to Israel.
Ramaswamy’s response to MacCallum and his dismissal of the “non-quotes” from the Brand podcast suggest that he now supports aid to Israel once again.
In addition to his shifting position on aid, Ramaswamy has faced backlash for comments that appeared to endorse 9/11 conspiracy theories. He referred to questioning the involvement of law enforcement in the Twin Towers attack as a ”legitimate” inquiry and accused the 9/11 Commission of lying.
When asked by MacCallum if he believed federal agents were part of the 9/11 attack, Ramaswamy firmly denied it, explaining that the Atlantic interviewer had brought up 9/11 while discussing federal agents involved in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021.
