White House confirms: No pardon for Hunter Biden.
President Biden Will Not Pardon Hunter Biden Amid Legal Woes
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre made it clear on Thursday that President Joe Biden will not be issuing a pardon for his son, Hunter, amidst his ongoing legal troubles.
“No,” Jean-Pierre definitively responded when asked about the possibility of a pardon.
Jean-Pierre’s statement comes in the wake of a failed plea deal between Hunter Biden and the Department of Justice, which occurred on Wednesday. Federal judge Maryellen Noreika rejected the deal and instructed both prosecutors and Biden’s legal team to come up with a new agreement.
The original deal would have allowed Hunter Biden to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax crimes and receive immunity for a wide range of criminal charges, all while avoiding imprisonment.
Despite the collapse of the plea deal, Jean-Pierre defended the DOJ’s investigation into Hunter Biden, emphasizing that it was conducted independently.
“The case was handled independently, as all of you know, by the Justice Department, under the leadership of a prosecutor appointed by the former president, President Trump,” Jean-Pierre stated on Wednesday.
When asked for further comment, Jean-Pierre declined, stating that “Hunter Biden is a private citizen and this is a personal matter for him.”
President Biden’s Distance from Hunter Biden’s Business
President Joe Biden has consistently distanced himself from his son’s lucrative foreign business ventures.
“I have never discussed with my son or my brother or anyone else anything having to do with their business, period,” Biden stated in August 2019.
However, House Republicans have recently uncovered evidence suggesting coordination between the president and his son regarding business dealings. Devon Archer, a former friend of Hunter Biden, is expected to testify before Congress next week, revealing that then-Vice President Joe Biden was present in meetings with Hunter Biden’s foreign business partners.
