Trump: DeSantis Super PAC Spokesperson Acknowledges Struggle
Defeating Trump: An Uphill Battle
Steve Cortes, a top spokesperson for GOP presidential candidate Ron DeSantis’s Super PAC, recently admitted that their campaign is facing an uphill battle in defeating former President Donald Trump. In a Twitter spaces event on July 3, Cortes acknowledged that they are currently way behind in national polls.
“Right now in national polling, we are way behind, I’ll be the first to admit that,” Cortes said. “I believe in being blunt and really honest. It’s an uphill battle. I don’t think it is an unwinnable battle by any stretch. But clearly, Donald Trump is the runaway frontrunner, particularly since the indictments. That was not the case before the indictments. However, he expressed respect for Trump and his supporters, stating that if DeSantis does not prevail in the primaries, the competition will make President Trump better.
Trump’s Dominance in the Polls
Recent polls have consistently shown Trump leading the GOP primaries by a large margin. A survey conducted in June by Echelon Insights revealed that 49 percent of respondents would vote for Trump compared to just 18 percent for DeSantis.
Third-placed Vivek Ramaswamy received 10 percent support, while the remaining GOP candidates polled in the single digits.
An NBC News poll from late June further confirmed Trump’s lead over DeSantis, which widened after the former president’s indictment.
A Fiery Exchange
Rhetoric between Trump and DeSantis has intensified in recent months. Just hours before DeSantis’s widely expected announcement of his presidential run, Trum
