International Leaders Call for Adherence to Humanitarian Law Amid Escalating Tensions in the Middle East
Amid intensifying tensions in the Middle East, international leaders have issued a joint statement urging all parties involved to uphold international humanitarian law. This comes after U.S. President Joe Biden engaged in discussions with leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Italy, and the UK regarding the ongoing conflict between the Israeli military and the Hamas terrorist group.
The leaders released a joint statement following their talks, reaffirming their support for Israel in response to Hamas’ large-scale terrorist attack on Israeli properties and civilians on Oct. 7.

The leaders emphasized the importance of upholding international humanitarian law, particularly in protecting civilians, as there are concerns that the ongoing conflict could escalate into a broader regional war in the Middle East.
They pledged to collaborate with key regional partners to prevent the conflict from spreading, maintain stability in the region, and work towards a political solution and lasting peace.
The leaders also welcomed the arrival of humanitarian convoys in Gaza and committed to coordinating with regional partners to ensure sustained and safe access to essential resources such as food, water, medical care, and other forms of aid for Palestinians.
In their statement, the leaders expressed their satisfaction with the release of two American hostages by Hamas and called for the immediate release of all remaining hostages.
Furthermore, they vowed to closely coordinate efforts to support their citizens in the region, particularly those who wish to leave Gaza.
Prior to the joint statement, President Biden had a phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to discuss the situation in Gaza and the surrounding region.
Both leaders affirmed that there will be a continued flow of critical assistance into Gaza, as stated in a readout issued by the White House.
The leaders also addressed efforts to secure the release of all remaining hostages held by Hamas and to ensure the safe passage of U.S. citizens and other civilians in Gaza who wish to leave.
Israel Faces Escalating Attacks by Hezbollah
This comes as Israel Defense Forces (IDF) reserve Lt. Col. Jonathan Conricus warned on Oct. 21 that the increasing attacks by the Iran-backed Hezbollah group on Israel could potentially drag Lebanon into a war.
Lt. Col. Conricus highlighted that Hezbollah’s presence in the demilitarized zone south of the Litani River violates United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701.
He stated, “It should be noted that Israel has not been the aggressor along the blue line. We have solely been defending ourselves, while Hezbollah is the one initiating aggression. The Lebanese state bears responsibility for everything that occurs within its territory.”
“Is the Lebanese state willing to jeopardize what remains of Lebanese prosperity and sovereignty for the sake of terrorists in Gaza, for the ISIS of Gaza? This is a question the Lebanese authorities must ask themselves and answer,” Lt. Col. Conricus added.
He further warned that Hezbollah’s aggression could lead Lebanon into a war with severe consequences. Israel has taken precautionary measures, including evacuating Israeli civilians along the northern border, and has urged Palestinians in Gaza to evacuate south.
“The common denominator here is that Israel prioritizes the safety of our own civilians and other civilians who we do not want to see harmed in any way,” he emphasized.
