Hollywood Actors on Strike: Major Movies Face Delays and Production Issues

With Hollywood actors announcing their decision to join the Writers Guild of America on strike, the entertainment industry is about to experience some serious disruptions. Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, executive director of the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Radio and Television Artists, made the announcement on Thursday, bringing the largest entertainment industry on Earth to a screeching halt. While the duration of the strike remains uncertain, its impact is expected to be long-lasting.

Here are some of the highly anticipated movies that will be affected by the strike:

  1. Deadpool 3
  2. One of the first movies to be affected by the strike, Deadpool 3 is the next installment in the adult-oriented action-comedy Marvel series, featuring Ryan Reynolds as the iconic character. Originally scheduled for release on May 3, 2024, the date is now likely to be pushed back. Reynolds even shared a picture on set, teasing fans with a Wolverine action figure sitting in a production chair, hinting at the absence of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

  3. Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire
  4. The latest addition to the MonsterVerse, this movie brings together Godzilla and King Kong to battle yet another world-threatening enemy. The studio released a teaser trailer a few months ago, setting the release date for March 2024. However, with the need for actors to shape the story and plot, the film is expected to face significant delays.

  5. Avatars 3, 4, etc.
  6. James Cameron has big plans for the Avatar franchise, following the massive success of the previous two films. Avatar 3 was originally slated for release in December 2025, but the strike will further postpone the return to Pandora, leaving fans waiting for approximately three more years.

  7. Captain America: Brave New World
  8. The next installment in the Captain America series, featuring the addition of Harrison Ford, was initially set to hit theaters in July 2024. While details about the plot and production status remain scarce, the release is bound to be pushed back due to the strike.

  9. Gladiator Sequel
  10. After years of anticipation, the long-awaited sequel to Ridley Scott’s Oscar-winning Gladiator has finally been confirmed. Although plot details are under wraps, Collider has announced a release date of November 22, 2024. However, the strike is likely to further delay the release, testing the patience of fans who have been waiting for 23 years.

  11. Kung Fu Panda 4
  12. The beloved animated series, with Jack Black voicing the panda-turned-kung fu master Po, was originally scheduled to release its next film in spring 2024. However, the movie is still in production, leaving fans eagerly waiting for its arrival.

  13. Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie
  14. This spin-off movie from the Spongebob universe follows fan-favorite character Sandy Cheeks as she embarks on a mission to save Bikini Bottom, accompanied by Spongebob. Initially set for a 2024 release on Netflix, fans will now have to wait a little longer to see if Sandy can rescue the underwater town.

  15. Minecraft
  16. The highly anticipated movie adaptation of the popular video game is scheduled for April 4, 2025, with Jason Momoa joining the cast. Despite a decade-long development process, fans will have to exercise more patience as the strike affects the project and its star.

  17. Garfield
  18. Starring Chris Pratt as the iconic orange feline, this movie, beloved by former Vice President Mike Pence, was initially set to release in February 2024. However, the date was already pushed back to May 24, 2024, and now faces further delays due to the strike.

As Hollywood actors stand united in their strike, the future of these highly anticipated movies hangs in the balance. Fans will have to wait longer to see their favorite characters and stories come to life on the big screen.
