What We Know About the Michigan State University Shooting Suspect
Michigan State University Police and Public Safety reported Tuesday morning that five of the victims were wounded in the shooting. The school’s campus Monday night remains in critical condition at Sparrow Hospital.
Three others were also injured in an attack on an academic building located on university grounds.
The university is not associated with the gunman, a Black 43-year-old male.
According to Deputy Chief Chris Rozman, the suspect was ultimately found dead after he shot himself off the campus of the university.
“This truly has been a nightmare that we are living tonight, but we have remained laser-focused on the safety of our campus, our students, and our surrounding community,” Rozman said.
The shooting began Berkey Hall, located at the northern boundary of campus at 8 :18 p.m., was evacuated.

“Run, Hide, Fight,” MSU was mentioned in the alert. “Run means evacuate away from danger if you can do so safely, Hide means to secure-in-place, and Fight means protect yourself if no other option.”
Police said that the suspect opened fire after shooting at Berkey Hall.
The university cancelled classes for the following two days and asked students not to return to campus on Tuesday.

There are hundreds of officers The FBI, ATF, Michigan State Police, and other law enforcement agencies supported local officials in protecting the campus.
Temporary flight restrictions were imposed by the FAA over the university’s campus from Wednesday to Wednesday.
