When It Comes To Communist China’s Grip On U.S. Institutions, TikTok Is Only The Beginning
- TikTok is widely believed to be Chinese Communist Party spyware, making it a simple target for lawmakers and the Biden administration to outlaw. However, denying China access to American data could easily serve as a pretext for the ruling class to assert that they are preventing foreign adversaries from infiltrating without actually addressing all of China’s negative effects on our country.
Communist China poses a serious threat to American security, according to the Biden administration, Congress, states, and organizations like the FBI. However, the CCP’s weaponization of TikTok has been the main focus of recent efforts to address these issues.
Simply put, the U.S. is taking the easy way out of China’s extensive infiltration campaign by outlawing TikTok. Americans are under the CCP’s control, which has been covertly tightened for years. Other significant ways that communist China has assimilated itself into American institutions are listed below.
The family business of Biden
Dealings with foreign actors, including those connected to communist China, support President Joe Biden’s family business abroad. Millions of dollars were funneled to Hunter Biden and his uncle James by businesses that were directly influenced by the CCP to provide legal representation for the “spy chief of China.” Hunter also assisted his Chinese business partners in securing a deal that gave them control of the cobalt mine in the Congo two weeks after he boarded his father’s Air Force Two plane for communist China.
The president recently sold oil from emergency reserves to BHR Partners, a Chinese gas tycoon in which Hunter’s private equity firm once staked $1.7 billion.
Even if Joe hadn’t done anything wrong, his country’s No. He is indirectly guilty because of his relationship with Hunter and the access his son received thanks to his father’s status. Joe is susceptible to influence from Hunter’s international friends, including CCP members.
Congress ,
There are many legislators in Congress who have been compromised by China. In order to send political information and personal information back to communist China, Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell developed close ties with a Chinese spy who spent years establishing connections with Democrats. The maritime shipping company owned by the Chao family, which has close ties to the Chinese government, has been the source of wealth for Senator Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and his wife, former Transportation Secretary Elaine Chaok.
the government
The WeChat account and IT equipment of a Federal Reserve employee were discovered to have been compromised by CCP officials in July 2022, according to the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee. Unfortunately, it wasn’t a one-off occurrence. CCP spy campaigns have also captured the attention of dozens of state and local governments.
Land …
To prevent foreign adversaries like China from acquiring U.S. territory, lawmakers on both sides of the political spectrum have raised concerns and put forth bills. But so far, the CCP’s intrusion has not been halted by those efforts.
China will have 384 000 acres of American farmland under its control by 2021, much of it close to American military installations and other vital infrastructure. China increased its foreign land investments from $ 300 million to $ 3.3 billion between 2009 and 2016. Chinese investors frequently associated with the CCP acquired 98 percent more American land in 2021 than they did between 2015 and 2019.
U.S. officials are aware that China intentionally buys land. For instance, CCP plans to “plant listening devices near sensitive military and government facilities” were revealed by U.S. officials in 2017.
Skies, too
For years, China has used spy balloons to spy on the United States. Most recently, a CCP balloon that had “multiple antennas” for “intelligence surveillance” flew over some of the country’s most sensitive locations over the course of several days. The Biden administration didn’t decide to shoot it down until after that journey was over.
Crisis in Fentanyl
The CCP is committed to increasing the use of fentanyl in the United States because it destabilizes the country and kills tens of thousands of Americans each year, as House Republicans and witnesses demonstrated last week during a hearing of the Subcommittee on National Security, Illicit Finance, and International Financial Institutions.
In order to accomplish this, China sells and exports the precursor chemicals needed to produce effective and profitable opioids to cartels, which then transport the lethal substance across the southern U.S. border. 14,700 pounds of fentanyl were seized by Customs and Border Protection in 2022. That doesn’t take into account the fentanyl that border agents failed to find; it is triple the amount it seized in 2020.
pharmaceuticals
For common generic medications and medical equipment, the United States relies on China, which is the world’s largest producer of active pharmaceutical ingredients. According to a report from the U.S. China Economic and Security Review Commission from 2019, the Chinese government wants to take advantage of this dependence and dominate the pharmaceutical industry worldwide.
A CCP propaganda outlet suggested that the Beijing government might stop providing Americans with drugs and equipment in 2020, causing the United States to “sink into the hell of a novel coronavirus epidemic,” which further increased China’s hostility.
academies
Academic institutions and Confucius Institutes are two of the most well-documented ways that China infiltrates the United States. These groups, which are frequently referred to as cultural initiatives, aim to increase China’s influence and international allies.
The Biden administration covertly dropped a Trump-era proposal that required educational institutions to disclose their affiliation with Confucius Institutes rather than fighting against this aspect of China’s soft power campaign. Beijing was able to reopen numerous of its infiltration hubs under various names thanks to Biden’s choice.
The administration has also largely disregarded the part Chinese state actors play in taking advantage of American higher education’s flaws. Chinese embassies or employees of the People’s Liberation Army frequently offer advice to Chinese students.
Additionally, since 2013, the Chinese government has been “the largest source of foreign donations to U.S. universities,” and since 2011, Chinese sources have taken part in contracts or donations totaling more than $426 million to American universities.
Intellectual property
China places spies in front-row seats to some of our country’s most promising technology and innovation as a result of its successful infiltration into higher education. Numerous trade, military, engineering, and intelligence secrets were stolen as a result of the CCP’s desire to challenge Americans’ control over the world economy and its access to American institutions that developed useful tools.
According to the Department of Justice, the Chinese state would gain from “80% of all economic espionage prosecutions” it brings.
sports
It goes without saying that China compensates the National Basketball Association for American basketball players’ and coaches’ silence regarding human rights abuses committed by the communist government.
China has recently been successful in persuading NBA officials to halt play and restrict players’ ability to express themselves on issues like the Uyghur genocide and the protests in Hong Kong.
Even the NBA coaches who run basketball camps in the communist nation acknowledged that because of China’s tight control over the association, they were essentially “working for the Chinese government.”
Electric Vehicles
China is responsible for “70 to 80 percent of the world’s battery chemicals, battery anodes and battery cells” which means it essentially controls the electric vehicle supply chain. As the Biden administration and its Democrat allies push toward requiring Americans to use electric cars over gas – powered ones, China’s grip on the global battery market will only tighten.
Similarly, the communist country’s monopoly on rare earth minerals and metals means the CCP controls not just the materials required for “green technology” but also “modern – day weapons systems”.
Wall Street
For years now, the CCP has used willing Wall Street firms to leverage its financial influence within the U. S. and around the world. This collusion not only sustains the human rights violator but also compromises “tens of millions of unwitting American investors in the process”. U. S. firms build woke capital on the back of the CCP which, in turn, gets billions of American dollars.
Other Big Tech Companies
As author Peter Schweizer documented in his book “Red – Handed”, China has “courted and seduced many powerful people in America’s tech industry to willingly, and sometimes enthusiastically” advance the communist country’s goal of technological supremacy.
Facebook, Google, Apple, and Elon Musk’s Tesla all cater to the CCP’s wishes.
Hollywood
Despite its extensively reported penchant for wokeness, Hollywood is all too willing to censor its productions to stay in the good graces of communist China to preserve overseas profits. The CCP’s ability to control what hits screens is just another way China exports its authoritarian ideology to the world.
Media
China not only runs propaganda but also employs the help of American corporate media outlets such as The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, and Bloomberg, which have built cozy relationships with Chinese officials.
The compromising nature of these ties became especially prominent beginning in 2020 when the propaganda press helped the CCP spread lies about the origins of Covid – 19.
Pretty much every major U. S. institution is ripe for reforms that would root out foreign influences like China. If the U. S. government is serious about combatting China’s sway, a ban on TikTok should signal the beginning, not the end, of a war on China’s infiltration of American systems.
