Column: President Biden Prioritizes Liberal Agenda Over Border Control

President Biden is seeking more power to address the border crisis, claiming that he will close the border once Congress takes action. However, he seems to be running out of options. According to the New York Times, the president is frustrated and feels hindered. He recently stated, “I’ve done all I can do.”
But has he really done enough? Under Biden’s policies, migrant crossings have reached record levels, with over 300,000 people being apprehended or processed in December alone. This issue is not limited to border states like Texas; it is a concern for voters across the country. And they rightly hold President Biden responsible for the current mess.
It’s cheeky and cynical for Biden to blame congressional inaction for the border crisis. If Congress fails to pass a bill that addresses immigration reforms and provides aid to Ukraine, Israel, and the Indo-Pacific, Biden will try to shift the blame onto the GOP. He may even succeed.
However, Biden’s claim of powerlessness is simply not true. He is asking for a legislative solution to a problem that falls under the executive branch’s jurisdiction. If he wanted to, he could take immediate action to tighten border control by reversing the executive orders that have contributed to the migration surge.
Biden could back up his tough talk with decisive actions, even if they were later overturned by the courts. But instead, he seems more interested in picking fights with Texas Governor Greg Abbott over fencing.
Where are Biden’s pen and phone? Did Major hide them somewhere on the White House lawn? Previous liberal presidents have used their executive power to push through their progressive agendas, claiming unitary power. Yet, when faced with an overwhelmed southern border and other related issues, President Biden suddenly feels helpless and dependent on Congress.
Why is that? It’s because Biden is more concerned about appeasing his college-educated liberal base than addressing the concerns of black and Hispanic voters who prioritize border security. His reliance on these liberal professionals limits his actions and weakens the country. It’s time for him to change course and enforce existing immigration laws while taking executive action to strengthen the border.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that Biden will make such a correction. He will likely continue to pursue an immigration deal that won’t pass the House of Representatives and complain about his lack of executive authority. Only to conveniently rediscover his pen and phone when progressives come up with another unpopular idea that gets rejected by the courts.

Of options. This is because Biden’s true priority lies in pushing his liberal agenda, rather than effectively addressing the border crisis.
It is clear that Biden’s policies have had dire consequences. His lax approach to border control, combined with promises of amnesty and a pathway to citizenship for illegal immigrants, has incentivized the surge in illegal crossings. This not only undermines the rule of law, but also poses significant national security risks and strains already overwhelmed border facilities and resources.
Moreover, Biden’s focus on appeasing his liberal base has caused him to neglect the concerns of black and Hispanic voters who prioritize border security. These communities understand the negative impact of uncontrolled migration on job competition, wages, and public safety. It is high time that the President starts listening to the people he claims to represent.
Contrary to his claims of powerlessness, Biden has the authority and means to take decisive action. He has the ability to reverse the executive orders that have contributed to the migration surge, and he can use his executive powers to enforce existing immigration laws and tighten border control. Yet, he chooses to engage in petty fights and shift blame rather than taking responsibility.
This disregard for border security is not just a political miscalculation, but also a moral failure. The President has a duty to protect the sovereignty and security of the United States, and putting partisan interests above national interests is a dereliction of that duty.
As the border crisis continues to worsen, it is clear that Biden’s prioritization of his liberal agenda over border control is causing significant harm. It is time for him to reassess his priorities, listen to the concerns of the American people, and take immediate and decisive action to address the crisis at the southern border.
