Where Things Stand in the Final Days of the RNC Chair Race

This week, Republican National Committee members are converging on Dana Point, California, for the RNC’s Winter Meeting at which they will — among other business — vote to select a chairman to lead the GOP into the 2024 election cycle.

Republicans are in a very difficult position after the 2022 midterm elections, where underperforming candidates failed on the promise of the results. “red wave” Many high-ranking Republicans promised conservative voters that they would take over the House. However, the House was held by a small number of seats and the Senate was not flipped red.

This is all history, but 2024 will present a new challenge to the Republican National Committee. Already, former President Donald Trump has announced his candidacy for the White House, and recently his former U.N. ambassador and previous Governor of South Carolina Nikki Haley has hinted that she’s considering a run — and there are many more GOPers waiting in the wings likely gearing up for a presidential run.

2024 will be a test for the RNC chair to hold the party together and eventually unite around the nominee to take on Biden — or whomever Democrats run in the next presidential cycle — but it’s also an opportunity to add more seats to the GOP’s House majority and to flip the U.S. Senate. It’s a complicated situation. The leader of the party must be smart about resource allocation, aggressive in fundraising, better than Democrats in utilizing early voting in legal states, and better at ballot harvesting.

2024 represents the best chance for Republicans to reverse the damage done by the Biden Administration and congressional Democrats. However, without GOP majorities and a bold Republican in Congress, America will struggle to get on the right track.

As it stands in the three-way race for RNC chair, incumbent RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel has — according to public statements and announced endorsements — the advantage heading into this week’s Winter Meeting. As Townhall reported previouslyMcDaniel was supported at the time by 107 out of the 168 RNC Members. Dhillon, on the other hand, is believed to have 60 supporters and has secured endorsements of major GOP donors as well as big-name conservatives. The only problem is that figures like Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly,  and Mark Levin don’t get a vote on who becomes chair of the RNC.

Minnesota pillow magnate Mike Lindell was the third candidate to be announced. He is eligible to vote in the contest but McDaniel’s and Dhillon’s columns only accounted for 167 RNC members, so it doesn’t seem like he will swing much support. He claims, however, to have enough votes to prevent any candidate from securing majority support and might force multiple ballot rounds — similar to the week-long battle to elect House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Townhall published last week exclusive columns by McDaniel and Dhillon, in which they each argued why the RNC should be led into the next crucial election cycle.

Dhillon argued That To win in 2024 or beyond, the Republican Party will need to adapt. “needs fresh leadership, new vision, and fundamental changes” to do so.

McDaniel is the other. said There is too much at stake for Republicans to return to square one. “build on our progress instead of going back to the drawing board” Prior to the 2024 election cycle.

Whatever happens next week the work of the winning RNC chair will only have just begun. Republican voters believe, and even expect to, make big gains in 2024. This is despite Biden’s incompetence.
